“20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” – Ephesians 4:20-24, NLT
Last week, we were reminded of how not to act as followers and lovers of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Now, we need to learn a thing or two about how a Christ follower does act and live by faith.
Before we can get dressed in our new spiritual clothes, we have to lay down our previous ways. All of the ways we once held onto, we have to lay down at our Savior’s feet – as we choose to wholly trust and live for Him.
Oh Lord Jesus, we need You. We need to surrender our faith, habits, and thoughts fully to You. Please help us to give our all to You!
Thankfully, we are made brand new in Christ. So, today is the day where we can start everything new. We can come away with our Savior Jesus, and change our spiritual clothes. Take off our former ways of sin and ignoring Christ, and choose to trust Christ right where we are.
My life is far from perfection. But, I can lay down everything that takes my eyes off of Christ. Right now, I am reminded of how hard this Summer has been for me. Some days, it feels as though I will not survive it. But, He will see me through this. He will get me through every single bad day.
And as I seek Him, my attitude can change as can my every habit and the level of trust I have for my Mighty God. He is able to do far more than I could ever think or ask. He is my Rescuer, and keeps reminding me that He doesn’t leave His beloved children. We are so very deeply loved by our Savior Jesus and Heavenly Father. Now, may we never forget it. . . and allow His eternal truths to change us from the inside out!
What do we allow our spiritual clothes to look like? In Ephesians 2, we are reminded that we are spiritually corpses without Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. Without Christ, we are dead inside. But with Christ, we can be fully alive and enjoy a new spiritual wardrobe.
The spiritual wardrobe Christ seeks to give us, is more extravagant than anything we could ever imagine – my friends! But, how will we daily come to Jesus Christ realizing our great need for Him?
