Grieving Heart

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart (Genesis 6:5-6).

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our LORD (Romans 6:23).

New International Version

Today, I am reminded of our heavenly Father’s grieving heart. Often times, we have grieving hearts ourselves. But how are we reminded of our God, our Creator, and His grieving heart over our broken relationship with Him?

Our God has gone through so much for our sake. This week, I have sat with Genesis 6. Within Genesis 6, we find our God’s grieving heart. Humanity has chased after sin, rather than enjoying the presence of and following our God! Scripture is clear. All have sinned. We all have the resulting consequence of sin bringing death and destruction of every relationship with God.

Then God does the most amazing thing – ever. He grieves His own heart even more, but our God sacrifices His One and Only Son – so that we may come back into a right relationship with Him – our Mighty God! God chooses to take that grieving and brings us to a place where we can experience reconciliation with our heavenly Father!

I cannot imagine how much it would ache to give up everything for one’s creation. But our God shows the depth of His love and continual investment into our lives. We aren’t the only ones grieving. Our heavenly Father is grieving far more than we could ever understand. But He is smiling from ear to ear every single time we choose to follow His Son Jesus who leads us to our Father.

How are we choosing to follow Christ and surrender everything to our Mighty God? Friends, He loves you and me so so soo much!
