“My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to Your Word! When I told of my ways, You answered me; teach me Your statutes! Make me understand the way of Your precepts, and I will meditate on Your wondrous works. My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to Your Word!” – Psalm 119:25-28
This is a prayer for strength. David wasn’t an exception to the rule. We all need to depend upon our Lord and Savior. We all stand in need of God’s Son Jesus Christ. We all need to lean on our God, and this is what is demonstrated in today’s passage of Scripture.
It is easy to find ourselves in circumstances that are hard and grievous. But like David, we can choose to fix our eyes on our Mighty God. Even while we endure things, we can choose to rely on the Lord for the strength to get through everything we must face.
These last several years, I have had rough time. I have had to learn how to depend on the Lord. But by His grace, I am learning how to rely on Him – not myself. Today, I am lacking a lot – which is teaching me to depend on Him. I feel greatly overwhelmed. I am so thankful that God has no set requirement for my times with Him. I can come quietly and seek. I can come with worship music. It is about my heart and coming as I surrender everything to my God and King.
I don’t feel as though I have much to bring on a day like today, but… I know it is okay. He will see me through this. He will give me the strength I need. He will do the same for you. Call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and believe in Him. While we have greatly sinned against our God, we can come repenting (confessing and turning from our sin) and through Jesus Christ -God will meet us right where we are – as we come to Him. What are we waiting for?
“For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground (Ps. 44:25).”
“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in Your ways. . . Behold, I long for Your precepts; in Your righteousness give me life!. . . In Your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of Your mouth. . . I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to Your Word!. . . Hear my voice according to Your steadfast love; O Lord, according to Your justice give me life. . . Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to Your promise!. . . Great is Your mercy, O Lord; give me life according to Your rules. . . Consider how I love Your precepts! Give me life according to Your steadfast love (Ps. 119:37, 40, 88, 107, 149, 154, 156, 159).”
“You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth You will bring me up again (Ps. 71:20).”
“You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your Word (Ps. 119:65).”
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act (Ps. 37:5).”
“Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes! (Ps. 119:12).”
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law. . . Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law and observe it with my whole heart. . . Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn Your commandments. . . I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies!. . . Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live. . . Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your Word! (Psalm 119:18, 34, 73, 125, 144, 169).”
“But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand (Job 32:8).”
“I will meditate on Your precepts and fix my eyes on Your ways (Ps. 119:15).”
