“You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from Your commandments. Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies. Even though princes sit plotting against me, Your servant will meditate on Your statutes. Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors (Psalm 119:21-24).”
In this passage of Scripture, I see two type of people. There are: (1) The rebuked (2) The helped. Which one is us? Are we running from God’s commandments? Or meditating and living them out?
The Lord rebukes those who wander from His commandments. While the Lord rebukes those who run from Him, He blesses those who run to Him.
Our God is mighty. He loves us fiercely. God’s commandments are designed to help and bless us. It acts as boundaries for our lives, as a way to offer us His protection.
While many run from the Lord, we can be those He is seen actively helping. Our Lord Jesus Christ is God’s Son and came to save us! He came to rescue us from our sins. How are we responding to Jesus Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection? He came to give us new life.
When we are the ones meditating on His Word and living out our love for our Lord Jesus, He will be our ever-present help! He will cleanse us from all our sins, not because of anything we have done. It is because of our Mighty God! He wants to save us, but will we ‘let’ Him? And by ‘let’, I mean. . .
Will we confess and turn from our sins – and turn to Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord?
Will we allow Him to surrender everything to Him?
Even though folks may be plotting against us, we can choose to meditate on God’s Word – knowing He will protect and counsel us! We are not meant to walk through life on our own, because we all desperately need our God who gives victory to His people. Even if this year doesn’t look particularly victorious in the physical realm, we can rest assured that we are eternally victorious and through Jesus Christ all things will work out for the good of those who love Him.

“The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law (Psalm 119:51).”
“With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! (Psalm 119:10)”
“Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! (Psalm 119:2-3)”
“Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words (Psalm 119:161).”
“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. . . Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works. My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! (Psalm 119:15, 27-28)”
“For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being (Romans 7:22).”
“I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. . . Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way (Psalm 119:16, 104).”
