“With my lips I declare all the rules of Your mouth. In the way of Your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and fix my eyes on Your ways. I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your Word (Psalm 119:13-16).”
English Standard Version
In verses 13-16, we see five things occurring:
- There is a declaration for the rules of our Mighty God.
- There is a delight for Words that come directly from God.
- There is a determination of value, for God’s Words to be of status!
- There is a devotion to the Lord and His Words (and commands).
- There is a discipline to fix our eyes on the ways of our Lord Jesus.
Which of these do you struggle with, most?
Do you feel like you are excelling in any of these five areas – declaration, delight, determination of value, devotion, discipline?
If I were honest, as I sit at evaluate, I feel like I am beginning to get my feet wet in the area of disciplining myself to hear the Word of our Lord. This week, I have been able to read and study our Psalm 119 most days. While I am not always sharing what comes up in my quiet time, I do feel like I am becoming more committed in my quiet time. Which will bear much fruit.
Even ten minutes of quiet time with our Lord each day, this adds up to five hours in a month’s time. Or, sixty hours in one year. :) That is something to get excited about! Our time with Jesus Christ will make a difference. The Lord will change us from the inside out! Even ten minutes spent with our Lord is far better than nothing, and it will mean changing as we surrender to our King of Kings!
“I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord (Psalm 40:9).”
“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lay down, and when you rise (Deut. 6:7).”
“Your testimonies are my hertage forever, for they are the joy of my heart. . . . I rejoice at Your Word like one who finds great spoil (Psalm 119:111, 162).”
“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her (Proverbs 3:13-15).”
“Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her… Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold, and my yield than choice silver.” (Proverbs 8:10,11, 18, 19)
“Even though princes sit plotting against me, Your servant will meditate on Your statutes. . . Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on Your precepts. . . Oh how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psalm 119:23, 78, 97)
“Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths.” (Psalm 25:4)
“Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. . . for I find my delight in Your commandments, which I love. . . their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in Your law. . . Let Your mercy come to me, that I may live; for Your law is my delight. . . If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. . . Trouble and anguish have found me out, but Your commandments are my delight. . . I long for Your salvation, O Lord, and Your law is my delight.”(Psalm 119:24, 47, 70, 77, 92, 143, 174)
