Gracefully Overcoming

Living in the Confidence and Hope Found in Christ Alone!

#26 (Summer Series ’19)

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your Word. With my whole heart I seek You; let me not wander from Your commandments! I have stored up Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes (Psalm 119:9-12).”

English Standard Version

Before we dive into the rest of the Scriptures, let’s talk: There is nothing more important than our relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came to save us. Our holiness in Christ is far more important than our happiness in this world.

Holiness triumphs happiness.

And the only way to become holy (or pure) is to cling to our Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord! It is about what Jesus Christ has done for us through His life, suffering, the cross, and His resurrection. He has come to save us.

We need to make our Lord Jesus’ opinion about us or any topic far more important than anyone else’s.

How are we guarding our heart?

Does the Scripture say, “Guard your hearts by listening to your friends”? No, it says we guard our hearts by clinging to our God and His precious Word!

We guard our hearts by listening and obeying our heavenly Father – despite what anyone else thinks.

Just marinate on these Words from our Mighty God! Most come from the book of Psalms.

“Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to Your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of Your goodness, O Lord (Ps. 25:7).”

“. . . The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you (2 Chron. 15:2b)”

“You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from Your commandments (Ps. 119:21). . . You spurn all who go astray from Your statutes, for their cunning is in vain (v. 118).”

“But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. . . And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart (Luke 2:19, 51).”

“The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip (Ps. 37:31).”

“When I told of my ways, You answered me; teach me Your statutes! (26). . . The earth, O Lord, is full of Your steadfast love; teach me Your statutes! (64) You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes (68). . . Accept my freewill offering of praise, O Lord, and teach me Your rules (108). . . Deal with Your servant according to Your steadfast love, and teach me Your statutes (124). . . Make Your face shine upon Your servant, and teach me Your statutes (135). . . My lips will pour forth praise, for You teach me Your statutes (171).”

“Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths (Psalm 25:4).”
