Today, I “restarted” plant based eating. While on social media, I came across a helpful idea to devote 21 days and see what happens. While I have done this way of eating before, I want to make it a challenge I can do in rounds. Happy to announce: Round 1 has started, and trusting the process.
May God be glorified, as I seek to honor Him in how I eat and treat this body I have been given!
This way of eating may not be for everyone, but I want to share what the Lord Jesus is teaching me – during these moments of seeking Him in my eating.
So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31, AMPC).
Because this is plant based eating, I am calling these sort of posts “Daniel Strong.” Join me on a short journey, as we seek God through His Word – the Bible!
The Reminder of Daniel
There are two things Daniel did, as he clung to God in this well known fast (where he ate only fruits, vegetables, etc). His fast lasted ten days, and he was examined – even compared to those who weren’t fasting.
Let’s meet Daniel in the beginning. Notice what is said about him in Daniel 1:8.
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way (NIV).
Daniel did two things –
- He resolved before God.
- He asked for permission.
If we live alone and prepare our own food, clearly the only approval we need is from God and our medical physician. Daniel was in a tense situation – devastatingly taken into captivity, but still sought after God. And, God provided for Daniel and his friends to seek and obey Him.
The Results –
They were examined, compared even to those who were not following God in absolute obedience by fasting. Daniel and his friends were obedient to God, and now the chief officer (and likely others would peek in for the final results) would measure their results. Was it worth the effort and courage to stand up to the Babylonians?
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead (Daniel 1:15-16, NIV).
They were found to be in better health. They were more fit and healthier than those who experienced royal treatment in food services. If this was “Biggest Loser,” they just won first place.
And so, everyone’s food choices went from “meats and wines” to a plant based way of eating. At this point, it wasn’t an automatic fast. It was their new way of eating.
We never know what our great God will do, as we surrender our wills and choose to obey Him instead. Our ultimate goal is to know Christ and glorify Him.
