“My dear friends, God loves you, and we know he has chosen you to be his people (1 Thess. 1:4, CEV).”
Yesterday, I read that God will give us all the wisdom needed for this journey (see James 1:5). When we ask, He freely bestows upon us His wisdom, but this is not all. God’s love is immeasurable, and pointed directly at you and me (as well as those around us). God has chosen us to be His people – His community. Why? Well, sometimes you have to ask – right? It is just because it’s who God is.
Have you heard the song “Good Good Father” yet? In this song, we are reminded that God’s love and caring acts toward us paints a picture of who God is. This is the perfect Scripture to bring us into the first week of “Meeting the Thessalonians”.
The truths in this week’s verse lay the groundwork for the most important thing we need to know – as we come to know God through our relationship with His Son Jesus Christ. We are taught that God has both chosen us and loves us.
Before the world was created, God had Christ choose us to live with him and to be his holy and innocent and loving people. God was kind and decided that Christ would choose us to be God’s own adopted children. God was very kind to us because of the Son he dearly loves, and so we should praise God (Eph. 1:4-6, CEV).
What kind of love and choosing is this? We will revisit this question very soon! God has lovingly chosen us. It isn’t out of our own good deeds or worthiness, but it is because of the grace and love of our magnificent God. He has displayed favor on us that we haven’t deserved, but lavishes His love and good gifts on us anyway!
