Gracefully Overcoming

Living in the Confidence and Hope Found in Christ Alone!

Comfort My People {{Week 1}}

Hi friends!

Welcome to Day 1 of our Isaiah 40 study.

For those just now joining us – let me briefly explain what we are doing. For the next four weeks, we will be studying this amazing chapter of Isaiah. We even have a journal and schedule, designed to help you get the most out of your quiet time with our Risen Lord! Consider joining us, for the fun and fellowship.

We are using social media (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) and this blog to share what God is teaching us. On social media, we are using a specific hashtag for all of our Gracefully Overcoming Scripture Writing Studies – #GOScriptureWriting.

Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 40:1-2//53:5-6

“Comfort my people,” says our God. “Comfort them! Encourage the people of Jerusalem. Tell them they have suffered long enough and their sins are now forgiven. I have punished them in full for all their sins (Isa. 40:1-2, GNT).”

But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received. All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way. But the Lord made the punishment fall on him, the punishment all of us deserved (Isa. 53:5-6).

Comfort.

God calls for His people to be comforted and spoken tenderly toward. To me, this is a beautiful statement. God is showing His heart, for me and all of us, right here.

By God’s love, I have had my sin pardoned. We have had our sins pardoned by our gracious God! God is acting on my behalf (and, yours too!). He is showing us who He is really is. God isn’t keeping it a secret.

He really loves us, and He wants the world to see it!

He laid on His Son, Jesus Christ, all our guilt, shame, and the weight of our sins. Even when we boxed ourselves off from God, He remained the exact same. He kept intentionally pursuing us. He did not choose the easy path, but the lasting one.

Through Jesus, we are given eternal life, and set free. If we choose to follow Jesus, this is what is waiting for us!

Will we welcome His enduring comfort, through His Son Jesus Christ? It comes by the Way of the Cross. Jesus Christ is the ultimate comfort we could experience today!

Until later this week,

Stacey

  1. Sounds like a great study, especially your next one coming out in September. Will have to check it out!

  2. Lobe Isaiah 40 and the idea of slowly walking through verse! Inductive studying is totally my thing. Enjoy!
