God’s Beloved Daughters (A BookLook Review)

gods-beloved-daugthers-coverGod’s Beloved Daughters is a year-long devotional by Merrilynn Grodecki. In the book, she begins by sharing her testimony. As she has come to know God, she has much to share with her readers. Each daily devotional imparts words gleaned from Scripture. The days begin with a specific set of passages of Scripture to help the reader walk through the devotionals. Followed by, a devotion written specifically for women to help them in their relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.

I wanted to enjoy this book, and glean much from its harvest through the author’s diligence to “bring the word” and walk alongside her readers. Truth be told – While it sounds like a really good book, I can’t recommend it.

Here’s Why…

There are inconsistencies found in this devotional. It doesn’t line up with what Scripture teaches. The example of this, is that we won’t experience trouble as an natural occurrence of life.

The author makes the assumption that troubles come from “diminished faith, sin, rancor, or lack of love. But as long as I maintained my connection unbroken or unhindered to the vine, I lived within God’s protective bubble of light, favor, and blessing (see the devotional for January 8).” This is not reflective of what Scripture teaches (see John 16:33).

While there are other inconsistencies in the devotional, none can compare to compromising the Word of God. I wasn’t able to comb through the devotional, to get an overall view of each day’s devotional, but for this reason I cannot recommend it. It could provide encouragement, but at what cost? Therefore, I cannot recommended for the reason given above. There are other devotions out there, that can provide encouragement without compromising the Word of the Lord.
