MMS – Almost

MMSFor the month of October, I am joining many bloggers in a challenge to write every single day for 31 days. I learned about this challenge through another challenge I participate in most weeks. The “Five Minute Friday” challenge is going to expand to last the whole month! Each entry, will be five minutes unedited of writing on a particular theme – found on Kate’s blog.Today’s theme is “almost.”

In the Bible, we see the word “almost” a few times. When God’s Word uses the word, almost, it generally has to do with someone’s fate.

The Great Almost’s by God’s Faithful

Paul almost died.

Philippians 2:30

[S]ince it was because of the work of Christ that he almost died. He risked his life so that he could make up for your inability to serve me.

David almost beaten to death, faced adversity (on the run from a son (Absalom) in Psalm 3), and yet God used all things and taught David His everlasting Word.
Please stop wounding me! You have almost beaten me to death!
They have almost destroyed me here on the earth, but I do not reject your precepts.
Asaph’s feet almost slipped. He almost quit believing. He almost stopped following God, because of the jealousy he had over proud people.
His “almost” was a lifeline. He may have been barely hanging on to his faith and Yahweh – the One True God, but by God’s strength – he was hanging on…
But as for me, my feet almost slipped; my feet almost slid out from under me.

Our Great Almost’s

We each face great almost moments in our lives, some leave their mark on us greater than others. I have heard it say, “almost doesn’t count.” I think almost does count. It counts in the truth that God can use every moment of adversity in our lives, to grow us in Christ. When we face adversity, we are forever changed. But it is like Joseph said in Genesis 50 – “what you intended for evil, God intended for good.”
We may be almost hanging on to our faith, to God,
to His Word, but as long as we are hanging on. That’s all that matters!
May that be an encouragement to us, today!
