I am taking a wee little break from the Fruit of the Spirit series. We should be back to it before too long. The next part in the series is on “gentleness”. Gentleness is such an important topic, that I just don’t want to rush into it.
Since “Single Living Friday” can become a moment of silence, I wanted to talk about something we all may struggle with from time to time. Sometimes, we all struggle with the heart issue of finding ourselves worthy of being loved. I know in my life, I am reminded that my circumstances are ones that I cannot imagine anyone willingly picking up and carrying as part of their daily life. My circumstances are ones I don’t choose, and can’t choose to not deal with them on a particular day when I am sick of them. It makes thinking about the future and my relationship status, interesting. Challenging, perhaps, until I see me through Jesus’ eyes.
When I am reminded of Jesus – the Christ, Jesus – my Savior, Jesus – the Lover of my soul, the unworthiness subsides and begins to fade away.
J E S U S
One of the most amazing things about Jesus is His love for us. Despite the fact that we are fallen human beings, the God of the Universe still loves us so much! Knowing this goes a long way. While going through Grace Leads, I became acquainted with the picture of God’s love that we find in the book of Hosea. In this book, God does two things: (1) He shows us His love. (2) He uses Hosea and Gomer to demonstrate His love.
‘But I will court [you] again and bring [you] into the wilderness, and I will speak to [you] tenderly there… and I will bind you to me forever with chains of righteousness and justice and love and mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness and love, and you will really know me then as you never have before.’ Hosea 2:14a, 19-20 (TLB)
I have a little note for all the single people out there: You might feel particularly unworthy of ever finding that special someone. Don’t close that door just yet. Remember the ultimate door God reopened? While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. While we were His enemies, He died on a bloody cross for our sins. If you are anything like me, you are reminded of the burdens and cares in your life that you cannot imagine anyone willingly wanting to deal with on a day-to-day basis, keep Christ’s love on your mind. Keep His love as your mindset. None of us know what He is going to do in our lives.
‘Not one sparrow (What do they cost? Two for a penny?) can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t worry! You are more valuable to him than many sparrows.’ Matt. 10:29-31, TLB
But, we do know His love for us is just absolutely amazing and unfathomable.
Nothing is off limits to the powers of what God can do in our lives!
