“What If” Scripture Challenge: Galatians 5:16-26

The What If Scripture Challenge Gal 5What if…
we devote the next ten or eleven weeks to intently studying and applying Galatians 5:16-26 to our lives? What if… we allowed His Spirit to challenge, change, and conform us to the image of Christ – becoming more like Christ – by giving Him our time, energy, and thought processes: to do what exactly?

My goal isn’t to solely memorize Scripture (if I make that goal, I will quit when I feel inadequate at it), but to take it to heart and apply it to my life. It will be seeking out how to hiding God’s Word in my heart, only my own way. When we seek to hide God’s Word in our hearts (reading the Word, prayer, and applying it to my heart and life), this is where the Holy Spirit can dig deep and change us. Even if I can’t memorize every single word, I know God will use it to strength my faith and walk with Him.

Each week, I will post the next piece of Scripture alongside a small commentary (my own or another’s) to help provide additional insight. Allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide. Give Him your concerns over whether you feel “fit” to memorize Scripture, and let Him take control of this time of being with Him. Focus on your intimacy with Him, and watch for what fruit springs up from the ground – by choosing to take this journey.

Week 1: Galatians 5:16

Here’s my instruction: walk in the Spirit, and let the Spirit
bring order to your life. If you do, you will never give in to
your selfish and sinful cravings. (The Voice)

“Living by the Spirit is contrasted to living according to sinful nature… Humankind is a virtual battleground where sinful nature and divine Spirit are set against each other; no compromise is possible. Paul tells his followers that if they live by the Spirit they will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” – Asbury Bible Commentary

Who wants to join in this Scripture challenge?
What are some of your tips for hiding God’s Word in your heart?

Write out a plan of action. It will help you stay on course and be intentional about this time of hiding His Word in your heart. Here’s mine:

– Write out the Scripture.
– Meditate on it, a little bit each day.
– Make an effort to learn more as I build onto what I am learning (from week to week).

It’s about our walk with Him. The God of the Universe cares infinitely for us,  and desires to be closer to us. We have to trust His guidance, and continue to turn to Him through praying, reading His Word, and hiding it in my heart.

(P.S. I proudly accept others praying for me, as I begin this walk in faith.)
