3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4
Trust in the Lord.
Take delight in the Lord.
Two very important phrases—verbs even– that precede the one we secretly covet and leave the rest: “desires of your heart“. Sad thing about our world is this: we only want what we want. It is all about me, me, me. We put aside everything else. Our love for one another is even selfish. We only contact someone when we want something or if we can get the glory for doing something good. Sad part is: We complete MISS God in the process. Instead of learning who God really is, we settle for whatever our sinful, corrupted minds create as God’s identity based on other ideas. We miss the true picture of who God is! The key that we miss is drawing near to God (James 4:8). YOU CAN’T KNOW GOD IF YOU DON’T SPEND TIME WITH GOD and in His Word!!!! We (me also) hinder our walk with God by not drawing near to Him! We get to know God by spending quality time with Him: Spending time in His Word. Spending time in prayer- listening to Him. How can you draw near to God without being in His Word? His Word is how we learn His character–what He is like…how He speaks to us.The Bible is essential!
Being with God–spending time in His Word is how we can truly know God.
It is not about us–our futile desires.
Nothing in this world can ever satisfy us–Only God can satisfy us! Only He can satisfy our longing hearts!
It is about our relationship with God–our Creator, our Savior, our Deliverer, our Friend, our Father.
Last passage on my mind is this one. The one we forget often when we are stuck in selfish mode:
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
I get so sick of the selfishness in our world. Love today is far from what true love is. It’s far from the love God has lavished on us! In our world, we throw a tag that says love when in reality it is still breeded selfishness. Instead of being others centered, really we are still so in love with our selves–not even our own selves since we breed the destruction from our selfishness… And, NO the heart doesn’t want what it wants. This is where we get it wrong….What is the heart really?
The heart is above all else deceitful (Jer. 17:9), which is why we need to Guard our Hearts (Prov. 4:23)! We are instructed to guard our hearts, because from it flows all of our lives. Quit worrying about the outside, and start bringing before God your heart (everything). Confessing your sins. Fellowshipping with the Creator. Recognizing your need for Him and asking for His help.. We should all take time to look at our hearts. Not just pointing out the selfishness of others, but making ourselves right with the Father and seeking His help. Entering conversations with God about what is going on. Talking about what is going on, but also listening to our Savior.
Drawing near to Him.
Giving Him everything.
This is how we are brought to a day-to-day life changing-transformation.
In Christ alone!
